The Brush Arcs baseball team saw their playoff run end on the road Tuesday evening, falling 4-1 to a strong Rocky River Pirates squad in the second round of the OHSAA tournament.

Rocky River struck first in the bottom of the third, when Griffin Hill grounded out to bring home a run and give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. They would add to their advantage in the later innings, finishing with four runs on seven hits.

Brush starter Isaac Sypniewski turned in a gritty effort, going six innings and allowing four runs (three earned). He gave up seven hits, struck out three, and didn't walk a batter. Despite the loss, Sypniewski kept the Arcs in the game against one of Northeast Ohio's top teams.

On the other side, Rocky River ace Michael Perry was lights-out. He threw a complete game, allowing just three hits and one unearned run while striking out 15 and walking one. His dominant performance on the mound earned him the win.

Offensively, Deshawn Dammons, Geofferson Betts, and Owen Thompson each picked up a hit for Brush. The Arcs also flashed the leather with a double play on defense to keep the Pirates from breaking the game open.

For Rocky River, Dylan Kolonick and Matt Gutia led the way with two hits apiece, while Kolonick, Gutia, and Jeff Maslar each drove in a run to help secure the victory.

While the season ends here for the Arcs, their playoff fight and overall perseverance — through tough opponents and countless weather disruptions — showcased the heart and growth of a team that never stopped competing. FIVE of these young men, seniors all, played their final ballgame for the brown-and-gold and become a part of the proud tradition that is the Brush Arc Baseball Alumni.... we wish KYLE FARRELL, OWEN THOMPSON, KEITH FEAGIN, JR., DOM TAYLOR, and JELANI CARR all the best in their future endeavors, and thank them for their tremendous contributions to BRUSH BASEBALL !!!
