Hall of Famer Dennis Woods has been named head baseball coach at Brush High School, replacing Brett Munn who stepped down following the 2024 season. Woods is the third winningest coach in the state of Ohio with 801 career victories, having spent time at Glenville, Mentor Lake Catholic, Cleveland Heights and most recently Villa Angela St. Joseph (VASJ) where he guided the Vikings to a 21-6 record a year ago.
"We're excited to have someone with Coach Woods' experience lead our program," says Brush Athletic Director Jamar Ross. "His knowledge of the game, along with his six assistant coaches, will be invaluable in the development of our players from the varsity level on down throughout the entire program."
Coach Woods is a graduate of Miami University and Kent State University Graduate School. He's been inducted into the Cleveland South High School Hall of Fame, Glenville High School Hall of Fame, Lake County Captains Crows Nest Hall of Fame and the Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Coach Woods is also a proud member of the OHSBCA Hall of Fame, earning induction in 2006.
Woods becomes the second head coach in the history of the accomplished Brush baseball program, along with Arc Hall-Of-Famer Jim Humpal (for whom Brush's home field at Greenview Upper Elementary is named) to collect over 500 career victories. Humpal coached at Brush from 1965-1992, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000. Humpal's 1985 Arc team lost a heartbreaker in the State Championship game, 8-5 to Fairfield, and finished at 30-4 for that glorious season.
