Boys Soccer Season Ends with 1-0 Tournament Loss at Lutheran West

The Brush Arcs boys soccer season came to an end Monday night, as the Arcs dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to the Lutheran West Longhorns in an OHSAA tournament opening-round matchup at Lutheran West in Rocky River.

The Longhorns secured the decisive goal in the second half when sophomore Eric Adams found the back of the net, breaking a scoreless deadlock and providing the only goal either team would need. Lutheran West goalkeeper Thiago Fonseca-Shaffer made two saves to preserve the shutout and send the Longhorns through to the next round.

For Brush, the defeat marked the conclusion of a challenging 2026 campaign. The Arcs entered the postseason with a 4-14 record but continued to compete through the final whistle against a Lutheran West squad that brought an 11-6-1 record into the tournament.

Senior Nathan Underwood led the Brush offensive attack during the season with five goals, while junior Prajit Tamang contributed four goals and and 2 assists. Junior Benjamin Denk added three goals and three assists, providing additional production for the Arcs throughout the campaign. Sophomore goalkeeper Marsellus Kappenhagen also played an important role, recording 25 saves and two shutouts while Lawyer Hale recorded 17 saves and Cortland Brown 8.

Lutheran West, meanwhile, advanced behind a balanced attack that featured several productive scorers throughout the season. Sophomore Alpha Baraka led the Longhorns with 12 goals, while sophomore Alenge Welongo contributed eight goals. Senior Jonathan Salo and sophomore Noah Stanaczyk also helped power the Lutheran West offense.

With Monday night's victory, the Longhorns move on to face Medina Highland on Saturday, October 24, at 7 p.m.

Although the final result was not what the Arcs had hoped for, Brush's 2026 season provided opportunities for growth, competition and development as the program looks ahead to next fall.
