The Brush girls wrestling team turned in an outstanding performance at the Vermilion Defense Soap Invitational, finishing second overall with 127.5 points. Woodmore captured the team title with 146 points, but the Lady Arcs were right in the hunt throughout the tournament after winning the event a season ago.
Senior Brooklyn Baskin and sophomore Amari Johnson led the way with first-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Baskin dominated the 155-pound bracket, posting a perfect 6-0 record. She capped off her day with an impressive championship victory, defeating Trinity's Koko Bryant by fall at the 1:53 mark.
Johnson continued her strong season at 170 pounds, going 5-0 on the day. In a tightly contested first-place match, she edged Eastwood's Eliana Rush by a 4-3 decision to claim the title. Notably, both Baskin and Johnson have now won their weight classes at each of the first two tournaments of the season, dating back to December 7.
Brush also received solid contributions throughout the lineup. Nia West placed fifth at 145 pounds, finishing the day with a 4-1 record. Olivia Fox added a fifth-place finish at 170 pounds, while Precious Werman earned sixth place at 135 pounds after going 4-2.
The Lady Arcs will look to carry this momentum forward as they return to the mat this Saturday and Sunday at the Lady Longhorn Tournament hosted by Lutheran West.
