The road to Columbus begins this weekend as the Brush Arcs wrestling teams open postseason competition at the sectional tournaments — the first and most critical step toward qualifying for the state tournament.
The boys will compete Saturday at Austintown Fitch High School, while the Lady Arcs take the mat Sunday at Northwest High School. A strong showing is essential, as wrestlers must advance through sectionals and districts to punch their ticket to state.
Lady Arcs Eye Big Postseason Run
Brush's girls team enters sectionals with momentum and star power.
At 170 pounds,
Amari Johnson has put together one of the most dominant seasons in program history. The sophomore carries a 41-2 record and is currently ranked fifth in the state. Johnson has captured four tournament titles this winter and continues to build on last season's breakout campaign that saw her earn a district championship and qualify for state. Now closing in on her 100th career victory in just her second season, Johnson looks poised for a deep postseason run.
Senior
Brooklyn Baskin has been equally impressive at 155 pounds. Ranked 10th in the state, Baskin is 33-4 overall with two tournament championships this season. A district runner-up and state qualifier a year ago, she brings experience and composure to the postseason as she aims to climb even higher on the podium.
At 145 pounds, senior
Olivia Fox is peaking at the right time. After battling through an early-season injury, Fox has gone 18-2 since returning to the mat and is ranked 19th in the state. A state qualifier in each of her first three seasons, she is chasing history as she looks to become the first four-time state qualifier in Brush girls wrestling history. With 98 career wins, she also stands just two victories shy of the 100-win milestone.
Boys Ready to Battle at Fitch
On the boys side, sophomore captain
Josiah Sims leads the charge at 132 pounds. A state qualifier as a freshman, Sims is determined to return to Columbus. He enters sectionals with a 39-5 record, two tournament championships, and five top-three finishes this season, proving himself as one of the area's most consistent competitors.
Co-captain
Charlie Dancy has delivered another strong campaign at 126 pounds. After qualifying for districts last season, Dancy has compiled a 28-9 record this year. He reached the podium in three tournaments, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the Ron Madow Classic and a third-place showing at the Riverside Rumble. His experience and resilience will be key as the Arcs look to advance multiple wrestlers out of the sectional round.
With rankings, milestones, and postseason experience on their side, the Arcs enter the weekend focused and hungry. The path to state begins now — and Brush will look to clear the first hurdle and keep their championship aspirations alive.
