The Brush Arcs delivered a dominant performance Friday night, shutting out the Shaw Cardinals 31-0 to move to 4-4 on the season and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Senior running back Aiden O'Neal got the Arcs rolling with a 20-yard touchdown run in the first quarter — his seventh rushing score and eighth overall this season. Quarterback Jay Gilchrist added to the lead just before halftime with a 3-yard touchdown run, sending Brush into the break up 13-0.
Shaw's troubles continued to open the second half, fumbling the kickoff to set up a short field for the Arcs. Gilchrist wasted no time, connecting with Carlton Avant on a 26-yard strike for Avant's first career touchdown.
The Brush defense turned in its most dominant effort of the year, holding Shaw to -13 total yards, including -79 rushing yards and forcing multiple turnovers. The Arcs recorded four sacks and a slew of tackles for loss, completely overwhelming the Cardinals' offense.
Gilchrist capped the scoring with another touchdown run in the fourth quarter as Brush cruised to its first shutout victory of the season.
The Arcs will look to keep their momentum going when they host Erie (PA) next Friday, October 17.
