Brush Defense Lifts Arcs to 35-7 Win Over Erie (PA)

In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, the Brush Arcs made sure it was one for the memory books, defeating the visiting Erie (PA) High School Royals 35–7 on another weather-friendly Week 9 Friday night at Korb Field. The Arcs (now 5–4) found their rhythm after a slow start, sparked by one of the season's most creative plays — a perfectly executed fake field goal that shifted the game's momentum for good.

With Brush trailing 7–0 midway through the second quarter, kicker Prajit Tamang lined up for a 38-yard field goal attempt. When the snap appeared off-line, holder and wide receiver Bryce Rucker calmly scooped up the ball, scrambled to his right, then stepped up and delivered a strike to Antonio Lee for a 21-yard touchdown. The unexpected score stunned the Erie defense and tied the game at 7, igniting both the Brush sideline and the home crowd.

From there, the Arcs never looked back. Senior quarterback Jay Gilchrist took over, completing 8 of 16 passes for 87 yards while rushing for 41 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries. Aiden O'Neal added 32 yards on 7 carries with a touchdown of his own, and Jace Williams contributed 13 yards on the ground.
Through the air, Trumar Salette led all receivers with 3 catches for 58 yards. Rucker added 2 receptions for 17 yards, Lee snagged the 21-yard TD, while O'Neal, Williams, and Louis Cunningham each recorded one grab.

Erie (3–6) moved the ball between the 20s but couldn't sustain drives against Brush's disciplined defense. Quarterback Paul Johnson Jr. finished 12-of-25 passing for 75 yards and added 47 on the ground, while Shaiede Smith ran for 58 yards and the Royals lone touchdown. Smith also caught 5 passes for 30 yards, with Tonio Davis adding 4 catches for 20.
Despite Erie's 180–170 advantage in total yards and 10–8 edge in first downs, Brush's timely execution and efficiency proved decisive. The Arcs converted 50% of their third downs (5-of-10) while holding Erie to just 4-of-14 (29%) and stopped the Royals on four of five fourth-down attempts.

With the 35–7 win, Brush improves to 5–4 and sets its sights on next Friday's regular-season finale against Cleveland Central Catholic at Korb Field. The Arcs will look to carry their late-season surge — and their trick-play confidence — into a statement finish. And maybe.....hopefully......a playoff appearance !
