O'Neal Helps Brush Football Earn First Win of the Season

Junior Aiden O'Neal ran for two touchdowns and picked off a pass on defense to help lead Brush (1-5) to its first victory of the season, a 36-6 win at Cleveland Central Catholic, Saturday afternoon.

After being shutout a week ago at Bedford, the Arcs took the opening possession and quickly marched down the field. Kvon Davis capping off the drive with a 15-yard touchdown run for an early 7-0 lead.

The Arc defense forced a turnover on the Ironmen's first possession as linebacker Braden Stewart recovered fumble at the CCC 25 yard line.  Brush needed just two plays to score when after finding Davis for a 24 yard pass to the Ironmen 1, quarterback Jay Gilchrist plunged into the end zone on the keeper.  The extra point was no good, however the Arcs were in front 13-0 with 6:54 to play in the first quarter.

CCC capitalized on a Brush turnover and scored on 3-yard run early in the second quarter to trim the Arc lead to 13-6.  Yet that Brush defense would pitch a shutout over the final two and a half quarters.

The Arcs responded on the ensuing possession, using the running back duo of O'Neal and Justus Vickers to wear down the CCC defense.  O'Neal's 5-yard run made the score 19-6 Arcs with 5:59 before halftime.  Brush added seven more points off of a turnover when Trumar Salette's interception resulted in O'Neal's second touchdown, a 16-yard run around the left end.

CCC drove the ball down the field with the help of a couple of Brush penalties, however O'Neal's interception at the 14 yard line ended any Ironmen hopes of a score before halftime and the Arcs took a 26-6 lead into the break.

Vickers would add a 53-yard scoring run of his own in the third quarter, and freshman kicker Prajit Tamang made a 32-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to mark the 36-6 final score.
