Ashtabula Lakeside used a massive 16-run fifth inning to break open what had been a competitive game, defeating the Brush ARCS, 22-2 on Monday at Welser Field.

The game started with both teams trading early punches. Lakeside struck first in the opening frame with an RBI single from Mariah Gildersleeve. Brush quickly answered in the bottom half when Yanni Ramsey doubled home two runs, giving the Arcs a brief 2-1 lead.

Lakeside regained the lead in the second inning with a two-run single from Jada Lavender, then extended it in the third, aided by a series of defensive miscues and a wild pitch that plated two more runs.

The fifth inning proved disastrous for Brush, as Lakeside erupted for 16 runs on just five hits. Multiple defensive errors opened the floodgates before Gildersleeve's two-run triple and Jules Lavender's two-run double helped fuel the onslaught. Walks, hits, and more errors combined into a marathon inning that put the game far out of reach.

Jeida Gardner took the loss for Brush, allowing seven hits and 14 runs (just one earned) over 4 1/3 innings while striking out six. Jules Lavender earned the win for Lakeside, pitching five innings of one-hit ball, allowing two runs and striking out eight.

Ramsey was a bright spot for the Arcs, finishing 1-for-2 with a two-run double. Raia Ross added speed on the basepaths with two stolen bases, as Brush swiped five bags in total.

Gildersleeve powered Lakeside's offense, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Jada Lavender and Lucie Cole also chipped in multi-hit games. Ryleigh Chatman set the tone at the top of the order, drawing five walks and stealing two bases as Lakeside showed patience at the plate with 12 free passes.

The Lady Arcs will look to have short memories and rebound on Tuesday when they travel to face neighbor Beachwood at 4:30pm.
