Girls Wrestling Places Second at Sectionals

The Lady Arcs wrestlers turned in a dominant performance at the Euclid sectional on Sunday, placing second overall with 118 points, just 10 behind first place Columbia. All seven of the Brush wrestlers who competed advanced to next week's district tournament.

As the championship round began, the Lady Arcs found themselves represented in three first place bouts.  Junior Brooklyn Baskin captured the crown at 155 by breaking a 9-9 tie with a takedown of Columbia's Cailyn Demagall with just over a minute remaining, eventually earning a 12-10 decision.

Freshman Amari Johnson (170) defeated Tamiya Whittsette of John Adams by a score of 7-2, continuing what has been a stellar season for the rookie who improved her overall record to 45-4.
In the 140-pound first-place match, Olivia Fox could not overcome Youstina Hanna of Columbia, eventually falling by pin.

DeAirdre Barnes-Daniels (100) and Le'Naysia Dickson (235) took home third place finishes in their respective divisions, while Leah James (115) and Elianna Steele (190) placed fourth.

With a trip to the state championships on the line, all of these young ladies will look to mirror their performances this Sunday at the district tournament at Mentor High School. Wrestling will begin at 10am.
