The Brush Lady Arcs continued their dominant postseason run, securing a convincing 60-31 victory over Willoughby South in a District Semi-Final showdown at Welser Gym on Monday night. The win marked the 19th straight triumph for Coach Demarris Winters' squad, pushing their record to an impressive 21-2 as they remain on track for a deep playoff run. The Lady Arcs, as they have for much of the season - scored early, often, and in a variety of ways while at the same time demonstrating the pressuring, suffocating defense that fuels their offense as they decimated the Willoughby South Rebels. It also allowed the ladies to post a perfect 11-0 record at the friendly confines of Welser Gym - where they were rarely challenged this year.
The Lady Arcs were quick to establish control from the opening tip, bolting out to a 22-7 lead after the first quarter, fueled by strong contributions from point guard
Chaniyra McDowell-Isaacs (7 points), Tati Mason (6 points), Jakayln Brown (6 points), and
Nyla Mason (3 points). The Rebels, though, had no idea what was about to come in the second period.
In what could be described as a dazzling performance, Tati Mason put the game out of reach with a blistering 16-point second quarter. The potential All-Ohio guard connected on two three-pointers, added four field goals, and converted a pair of free throws, completely outscoring Willoughby South by herself in the frame (16-6). Thanks to Mason's torrid stretch, Brush outscored the Rebels 28-6 in the second quarter, entering halftime with a commanding 50-13 lead.
Willoughby South had no answer for the Lady Arcs' depth and talent. Mason led the way with 22 points, while McDowell-Isaacs added 15. Brown and
Nyla Mason chipped in with 8 points each, and Juliana Ferreria contributed 5 points in a well-rounded effort. Despite being outmatched, the Rebels were effective at the free throw line, hitting 10 of 14 attempts (71%), compared to Brush's 5 of 7.
Coach Winters, continuing to utilize his deep roster, gave substantial minutes to all 10 players, providing valuable postseason experience for the bench squad. This depth could prove crucial as the Lady Arcs advance further into the playoffs.
Looking ahead, the Lady Arcs are set for a showdown with the Madison Blue Streaks on Saturday. Madison (19-4) comes into the game off a commanding 73-57 win over Youngstown Chaney, and they will present Brush with perhaps their biggest challenge of the postseason thus far. Stay tuned to see if the Lady Arcs can keep their remarkable playoff streak alive!
