The Brush Lady Arcs made a powerful statement to open their season, defeating the Akron Hoban Knights 46-32 in a battle of Northeast Ohio powerhouses at the Great Lakes Classic. Brush's suffocating defense and balanced offensive attack set the tone for the marquee matchup between two top-ranked programs.
The Lady Arcs stifled Hoban's offense, holding the Knights to just 23% shooting from the field and forcing 19 turnovers. Brush capitalized on those mistakes, scoring 19 points off turnovers and dominating the interior with 24 points in the paint. They also controlled the glass, outrebounding Hoban 31-24, including 10 offensive boards that led to key second-chance points.
Chaniyra McDowell-Isaacs delivered a standout performance to earn game MVP honors, leading Brush with 14 points and anchoring the team's effort on both ends of the court. Freshman Nylah Mason made an immediate impact in her first career start, scoring 12 points, including a pair of clutch three-pointers in the first quarter that helped Brush establish an early lead.
Senior Tatiana Mason showcased her all-around game, contributing eight points, five steals, four assists, and four rebounds. Jakalyn Brown added eight points and pulled down six rebounds, four of them on the offensive end, to round out a strong team effort.
