The Gilmour Academy Lancers got off to a quick start and never looked back, defeating host Brush 35-7 Friday night at Korb Field. With the win Gilmour remained perfect at 8-0, while the Arcs fell to 2-6 on the season.
The Lancers set the tone early by scoring on its first drive from scrimmage, and when they added another TD, on a pass from QB Cooper Panteck to
Sean Dillard with 8 minutes left in the opening quarter - Gilmour had Brush in a early 14-0 hole. Panteck looked good throughout the initial half - picking from his deep receiving corps that included seniors Dillard, Nick Iliano, Lars Broberg, and Ohio State-recruit Brody Lennon. The Lancers mixed the run well with the aerial game, utilizing the speed of CJ Santagarta out of the backfield - not allowing the Arcs to drop extra bodies into pass coverage.
Gilmour tacked on two more touchdowns in the 2nd quarter, giving them a 28-0 margin after the opening 24 minutes. The Arcs did have some good defensive performances from the likes of
Braden Stewart, who supplied 10 tackles (3 for loss), 1 sack, and 1 fumble recovery and
Aiden O'Neal (10 tackles and a pass break up).Â
Antonio Lee chipped in with 8 tackles and
Inathalee Bohanon contributed 5 tackles (1 for a loss) and 1 sack.
Brush put together a nice drive in the final quarter, culminating with a 14-yard TD pass from QB
Jay Gilchrist to WR
Kevin Powell, who fought through three would-be Gilmour tacklers after Gilchrist found him slanting across the middle.
Henry Shelby made good on the extra point, resulting in the final score of 35-7. Gilchrist completed 4 passes of 15 attempted for 57 yards and the TD and
Justus Vickers led the ground attack, fighting for 43 yards on his 15 carries against an aggressive, swarming defense. In the end, it wasn't enough offense as Brush earned just 102 yards on their possessions (57 via the air and 45 on the ground).
