Cecil Shorts may well be the most versatile coach in the Arc Athletic Department, having coached football, basketball, baseball, and track in his 28-season career. Coach Shorts recently completed his 12th campaign as the Brush boys head track & field coach.
Shorts spent his own athletic years as a multi-dimensional competitor at Glenville (class of 1981) and at Kent State University from 1983-85. He is a well-known and respected leader not only at Brush, with his track and football coaching, but around northeast Ohio as he also enjoyed time spent at the CMSD schools, Glenville, Collinwood, and Cleveland South. He is the proud holder of a Senate Athletic League City Championship (2007 / Collinwood); Senate League Coach of the Year (2004, 2007); 2005 Cleveland Browns Football Coach of Week; and the N.O.C. Lake Division Boys Track-and-Field Coach of the Year at Brush (2013 / 2015 - Championships).
Shorts’ son Stephen coaches at Memorial Middle School, while his daughter Natasha leads the Brush girls volleyball squad. His son Cecil III spent six years in the NFL and five of his six children are Brush High graduates.
