Brush pushed its winning streak to three games on Thursday night with a 49-47 win over visiting Walsh Jesuit behind a career-high 29 points from
Prince Ryleigh-Johnson. He scored 10 points in the fourth quarter, including a layup off of a steal that proved to be the winning basket, putting the Arcs ahead 48-47 with :23 remaining in the game.
The junior Ryleigh-Johnson scored in a variety of ways—knocking down a pair of three-pointers, hitting mid-range jumpers, slashing to the basket for layups, converting second-chance opportunities, and finishing an efficient 5-of-7 from the free-throw line. He also pulled down six rebounds, continuing a strong stretch that has him averaging 16 points per game on the season.
The supporting cast did its part in a physical, low-scoring contest. Frontcourt mate Reggie Smith Jr. chipped in six points and a team-high 10 rebounds, while
Braylon Davis and
Javion Sanderson added five points apiece.
Khalil Dudley continued his steady return from a football-related knee injury, contributing four points, four assists, and four steals from the backcourt.
Cheveyo Dozier also made his presence felt defensively, recording his first block of the season.
Walsh Jesuit received balanced production from its veteran leaders. Seniors Dave Jacobus, JP McMullin, and Anthony Spain combined for 35 points, keeping the Warriors within striking distance throughout. Spain was flawless at the foul line, going 10-for-10 while also grabbing six rebounds. Jacobus and McMullin did much of their damage inside, with Jacobus hauling in a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Warriors carried a 29–24 lead into halftime as both teams struggled to find consistent rhythm offensively. Brush flipped the script in the third quarter, outscoring Walsh Jesuit 13–8 to erase the deficit. In a tightly contested final period, the Arcs did just enough, edging the Warriors 12–10 over the final eight minutes to secure the two-point victory.
The loss drops Walsh Jesuit to 3–9 on the season. The Warriors will look to rebound Tuesday night when they host Villa Angela–St. Joseph at 7:00 p.m. Brush, meanwhile, has now won three straight and five of its last six to improve to 7–4. The Arcs will embark on a two-game road swing, beginning Tuesday at Hawken (7:00 p.m.) before the annual cross-town matchup at St. Edward on Friday night, also tipping at 7:00 p.m.
