Sims Brothers Make History, Punch Tickets to State for Brush Wrestling

The Brush boys wrestling team will be well-represented at the 2025 OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament, as brothers Jonathan and Josiah Sims both earned their spots at the prestigious event following standout performances at the district tournament. Brush finished 10th overall as a team, capping a successful season with two state qualifiers — and a historic first.

Jonathan and Josiah become the first pair of brothers in Brush High School history to qualify for the state tournament in the same year, adding their names to the school's record books.

Jonathan Sims, a senior competing at 190 pounds, has been a force all season long. With a sparkling 40-1 record, he entered the district tournament as one of the top contenders — and lived up to the billing. Sims dominated his way into the finals, where he battled to an 11-10 decision victory over Xander Horak of Massillon Perry to capture the district championship in his final season.

Not to be outdone, freshman Josiah Sims made his own mark at 126 pounds, wrestling his way to a third-place finish to punch his ticket to Columbus. With a 37-7 record, Josiah has put together one of the most successful freshman seasons in program history. With three more years ahead of him, the younger Sims will have plenty of opportunities to chase — and possibly surpass — the success of his older brother.

The Sims brothers will now head to Ohio State University this weekend, where they'll take the mat at the OHSAA State Wrestling Championships from March 7-9, looking to add to their family's growing legacy and represent the Brush Arcs on Ohio's biggest stage.
