The men and women of your ARCS wrestling team suffered a valiant loss against a tough Solon Comet wrestling squad last week (12/29/20).
Winning performances were turned in by several of your ARCS.
Junior London Settles secured a 2-0 record on the young season by pinning his opponent in the second period at the 145 pound weight class.
Senior Anthony Efford stepped on the mat for the first time this season in the 152 pound weight class, and he came out strong by dominating his opponent from start to finish – culminating with a first period PIN to begin his season 1-0.
Junior Scott Monah has proven again why off season workouts can and will improve your in season performances. He demonstrated resilience and control while taking command of his opponent and bending him to his will. He pinned his opponent in the second period at the 170 pound weight class.
Junior Maliek Williams secured a win with a forfeit at the 285 pound weight class.
The ARC grapplers then suffered another tough loss the next day (12/30/20) against a Beaver Local High team (Lisbon, OH), loaded with ten seniors in their starting lineup.
Highlights of that event included:
152# weight class:
Senior Anthony Efford, stepped onto the mat to wrestle an opponent that seemed to tower over him by at least a foot – but Efford displayed no fear. Anthony dominated his opponent from the start by shooting a beautifully set up single leg take-down to execute a pin, earning his second win of the season while bringing him to a 2-0 start to the season. BOTH of his wins have come via the pin route.
285# Weight Class:
Junior Maliek Williams secured his third win of the season. He accomplished this feat by pinning his opponent in the first period, over an experienced senior class wrestler. Maliek is in route to becoming a three time district qualifier and attempting to punch his ticket to the OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament. He currently holds a 3-0 record.
